Program Overview
Mini Stars (U8s, U10s) - For children aged up to 10 years. Building up their basic skills from week to week, this structured program will be both focused on development while incorporating some fun game action. Rules are modified to encourage a safe and free flowing game of (half field) touch football action.
Junior Stars (U12s) - For juniors aged 11 to 12 years interested in building on their foundational skills and transitioning to a full sized balls and field for games.
Youth Stars (U14s, Opens) - For our youth aged 13 though 17 years who want to level up. They will play in teams as part of our social competition (Mondays); while pushing their existing skills, developing new skills, and regularly working on game strategy (Wednesdays). This program will give the opportunity for growth and selection to push yourself further through pathways into our representative teams.

Junior State Champs
Participation at Junior State Champs is completely separate from participation in our Programs detailed above!
Dates: Friday 27th Nov to Sunday 29th Nov
Cost: TBA
What is Junior State Champs?
Junior State Championships, facilitated by Touch Football Western Australia, is a three day interclub competition. It spans U8s through to Opens. Games for the older cohorts start from approximately 3pm on the Friday, run all day Saturday (8am to 8pm) and most of Sunday (8am to 6pm; though from midday Sunday there are fewer games as quarter finals progress through to grand finals). Under 8s only play on the Saturday morning. U10s play on both the Saturday and Sunday morning.
Please note - most specifics (exact start and end times for age groups) will remain TBA until much closer to mid November.
What will Southern Stars involvement be?
Southern Stars will be sending the following teams:
U8 Mixed, U10 Mixed, U12 Girls, U12 Boys, U14 Girls, U14 Boys, Open Girls, Open Boys.
Some teams (U8s, U10s) will be participation based. Other teams (U12s, U14s, Opens) will require nomination and be selection based. Some teams will include players from our regional partners, who will not have been involved in our Stars Programs detailed above.
When can I know more?
Expect to hear more about this from early October.
Mini, Junior, & Youth Stars FAQ
I am excited, when do registrations open?
Registrations are open now (30th July 2026)! Follow the links above to complete your child’s registration through MySideline.
I don’t want to miss out, when do registrations close?
Once Term 4 starts (12th October 2026) there will only be limited new registrations accepted - these are likely to be accepted where we need to balance/complete team numbers. Registrations for certain programs may close earlier than that if we feel we do not have enough volunteer support to continue enrolling into that program.
What are the main differences between the Mini Stars, Junior Stars, and Youth Stars Programs?
Essentially, age of entry and gameplay. Mini Stars (U8s, U10s) will use junior balls and play their games on a half field with modified rules. In Junior Stars, our U12s will move to a full size ball - both groups will play on a full field. Youth Stars (U14s, Opens) is full strength touch footy action. Our Juniors Coaching Coordinator, with support from our Director of Coaching, will ensure that the skills, drills, and gameplay that is taught across the season is complementary between programs. A cohesive and progressive approach is being taken to the skills development - year on year - to set the teams and individuals up for success, with whatever they want to do in the touch space.
Are there refereeing or coaching opportunities for my teen?
Absolutely. We are keen to help teens develop their leadership skills and will work with them to ensure they are supported in either pursuit! We would love to have more of the older cohort supporting our programs for the younger cohort. We have a Director of Referees and a Director of Coaching, both of whom have a passion for developing passionate and enthusiastic teens. And, they’ll even get a bit of pocket money out of it! Reach out for a chat.
What is Youth Stars split across two nights? What if we are only available one night?
Two reasons. One, having everything on one night means the Youth Stars who want to referee or coach the Mini Stars or Juniors Stars struggle to do so (too much in one night). Two, twelve weeks can pass quickly, and we feel that just one hour a week is just not enough for this cohort to really push their skill develop and see/try those skills within a full gameplay environment.
If you are only about to make one of the two nights, please chat to us. We will do what we can to accommodate this while ensuring overall numbers are optimised for the activities (skills and games). We will not be able to adjust the fees for this.
What are the TFA and TFWA Affiliation Fees?
TFA and TFWA have an annual affiliation fees ($30 each) which must be paid to once per financial year (July - June) per player. If you go on to play in other TFA events (summer/winter social competitions or school/state events) you will be covered for the full financial year. These fees will be added automatically during the registration process on MySideline, before the club fee is added. The affiliation fees cover sports administration support and injury insurance costs.
Do we have to register based on birth year, my child wants to play with his school friends?
Yes, registration into Junior State Champs is strictly based on birth year (not school year), so we start and run our program based on birth year to avoid having to form different teams for Junior State Champs.
I am really keen to get involved, how can I help as a parent?
We love volunteers (we’re all volunteers!), and there are many roles which you can put your hand up for as part of the registration process. We need coaches, team managers, year group coordinators, and more! If you are keen to assist but are not sure exactly how, please contact our Juniors Coordinator Jane at juniors@southerntouchfootball.com.au. Or come and see us in the office on training nights. All parents who volunteer as coaches will be provided resources to assist with teaching basic skills and training drills.
What kind of uniform or outfit does my child need to wear?
No uniform is required, just appropriate clothing and footwear for exercise. We do recommend a football style moulded boot. Bibs will be provided to teams for the games.
